Pancake Wednesday

This is the batter I made on Tuesday from Jane Asher's Eats for Treats, a cookery book Mum got when I was small.

This is half-way through cooking my first pancake πŸ™‚

I love pancakes. We were going to have pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, but that didn’t happen. I’d made the batter and everything too. So we had them last night, although Dad decided to opt out for some reason. So here are some pictures taken of the fun of pancake day πŸ™‚

I hope everyone had a brilliant Pancake Day/Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras whenever they celebrated it!

This is my first pancake. It was yummy πŸ™‚

Rabbit hole escaped :)

I just got back from posting in my EMA (that’s End of Module Assignment, yeah I keep thinking of MTV’s EMAs and of the Educational Maintenance Allowance too!). Irritatingly we’re not “allowed” to use Recorded Delivery, so I’ve had to settled for Proof of Posting. I wanted to track it Every. Step. Of. The. Way. Damnit!!! Now the waiting game starts.

I’m not good at the waiting game.

Seriously.

Not. Good.

On brighter news, I can actually start reading and therefore blogging again – this isn’t actually a blog post, really πŸ˜‰ I’ve got two books left over from last year which I’ve already read, but as you saw in this post life decided to rear its head. Seriously not cool! I’d actually starting writing a review for one, so hopefully my first book blog of the year won’t be too far off. No promises though.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Glitter Words - http://www.sparklee.com

With only one day to go before the big day, so to speak, I thought I’d take the time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I hope everyone has a fun filled day with friends and family whether they celebrate the day or not. I will be spending the day with my family, eating too much, and exchanging gifts and watching bad telly. I’ll also NOT be venturing out to enjoy the chaos of the Boxing Day Sales – they’ll still be there later in the week.

Trying to escape the rabbit hole

My posting to the blog has become almost non-existent. Sorry! I had drafts of post all lined up to post from the end of November to early December. I even had thoughts on how I was going to handle Christmas and the New Year, and what my first post of 2012 was going to be. You see, I had to be organised because I’ve got a 5,0o0 word essay due on January 16th which I’m going to have to send by post. Unfortunately life decided to rain on my parade. My plans all fell into ruin because I got swamped in trying to prepare for my essay at the end of November and then in early December I had an allergic reaction to some medication I was taking. That stopped everything. It was not fun. I’m still not one hundred percent, but I do have enough energy to go back to being me. I’m still going to try to post what I was going to do for Christmas and New Year, but there will for certain be no more reviews posted on this blog until mid-January. Sorry. I wish life hadn’t decided to rain on me, but it did. In case I don’t get the chance to post again, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas (whether you celebrate it or not) and that you have a fantastic New Year.

Quick update

So, the blog’s a little silent at the moment. This is mainly because life decided to drag me kicking and screaming from the books – sorry about that. I’ve been ill – I’m waiting on the hospital to hear the results of my tests – and I’m in the middle of writing an essay on Milton, Blake & the Bible right now for my English Masters – it’s seriously kicking my arse.

I promise I’ll be back come September with new book reviews, and perhaps a few other posts besides.

Curling up with a good book

As far back as I can remember I have always been an avid reader. I can remember begging my Mum to read me just one more chapter before I had to go to sleep – and okay, that was mostly because as a child sleep and I did not co-exist easily. Books have been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. If you asked me to pick between food and a good book, I would undoubtedly pick the book – what’s food to a good read?

I’ve spent a lot of time reading lately. Mostly in an attempt to ignore the fact that I have an essay due in a months time on Robinson Crusoe & Foe – did I mention I am doing a part-time English Masters with the OU? – and partly because there have been some books published by favourite authors and I’ve been bored. Bored + Becki = Reading. Not always, but most of the time.

Don’t worry if you don’t hear from me again until mid-June, I will be essay writing – or more probably procrastinating about essay writing. Still, I may try to get in a review or two, we’ll see.

Hello world!

Welcome to The Flutterby Room. This is my first official post to the blog, and I have to say I’m kinda excited πŸ™‚ The whole idea of this blog is to create a place where I can talk about not only the books I read, but my favourite books and my favourite authors. But first, a little bit about myself.

My name is Becki, I’m 24 years old and I live in the UK. I’m currently studying to do my Masters in English with the OU. I’m something of a bibliophile, and I currently have 295 fiction books in my collection. Most of these fall into the (rather broad) category of fantasy or horror, though not all of them. I have several favourite authors, and I tend to have favourite series more than I do favourite books. I’m not particularly bothered if the books I read fall into either adult of YA categories – and for favoured authors I’m prepared to explore outside of these boundaries.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to update this blog again until after the 7th April, as I have several outside commitments that must take precedence – including an essay on Coriolanus. I’m really sorry about this, but I wanted to get everything set up before I started in earnest.

I look forward to seeing you when I can get back.
Becki
