Bout of Books 8.0 – Day Six

Day 6 – Saturday August 24th 2013.

I didn’t do anything towards bout of books today. Instead I spent the day in London with my Mum. I did, however, do something towards my book reading habit 😉 We popped into the V&A and the Science Museum for brief visits, before walking along Exhibition Rd towards Kensington Gardens. We got caught in a major downpour as we walked through Kensington Gardens so I could see the Peter Pan Statue, so we ended up also seeing the Italian Gardens. After that we visited Foyles, then Forbidden Planet before heading to Covent Garden. We also stopped of at Selfridges were I picked up a prize for a giveaway I’m holding here in November. Then we had dinner and went home. All in all it was a fantastic day, but it meant that I got no reading done.

Bout of Books 8.0 – Day Five

Day 5 – Friday August 23rd 2013.

I ended up doing a lot of travelling today, so almost all my reading took place on public transport. When I was home I didn’t end up reading because I was so tired 😦 I also realised that tomorrow isn’t really going to happen for me on the reading front as I’m spending the day with my Mum in London. It also means I’m going to totally fail one of my challenges – taking part in a Twitter Chat. Opps.

Bout of Books 8.0 – Day Four

Day 4 – Thursday August 22nd 2013.

I ended up having quite a bit of reading time today. I made a phone call at 10:40am and then ended up waiting several hours for a response. This gave me plenty of opportunity to catch-up with Bloglovin’, to look at the challenges, and to do some reading. This allowed me to finish reading THE WOKEN GODS and also to have a bit of a break as I felt completely drained because of the stress. I also started CROWN OF MIDNIGHT.

Bout of Books 8.0 – Day Three

Day 3 – Wednesday August 21st 2013.

Today was not successful. It didn’t even occur to me to start reading until gone 9pm. I just didn’t feel in the mood to read. I did have a look at today’s challenge/giveaway but decided against entering.

Bout of Books 8.0 – Day Two

Day 2 – Tuesday August 20th 2013.

Today was a late start as well. I managed to write a review for BITING BAD and to take part in this weeks Top Ten Tuesday. Thankfully I had already written the post, so I just had to link up and comment. I also kept an eye on what was going on with everyone today using the #boutofbooks tag on Twitter. I thought it was really interesting to see how everyone was getting on.

As I finished BITING BAD last night, today I started THE WOKEN GODS on my e-reader. I’ve got an eARC, the book is published on September 3rd by Strange Chemistry. I made it about halfway through (at least according to my page count).

Number of Books Read Today: (started) 1 – THE WOKEN GODS

Bout of Books 8.0 – Day One

Day 1 – Monday August 19th 2013.

So today was the start of Bout of Books 8.0, and I totally forgot. Opps. This means I lost the morning and most of the afternoon – although, this was in part due to my insistence that I had to write the review for TIGER’S CURSE before I could start BITING BAD. I also ended up missing the Twitter Chat tonight because I noted down the wrong start time 😦 Ah well, there are still another two chances. On the plus side, I did manage to enter one of the Challenges today – so that is one goal managed 🙂 I also managed my goal of reading BITING BAD in a single day so I wouldn’t have to stress about reading the other two books to complete my goal.

Top Ten Tuesday (30)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

This weeks Top Ten topic is …

Top Ten Things That Make Your Life As A Reader/Book Blogger Easier

The list is in no particular order. And sorry, but no pictures this week.

  1. My Local Library – I don’t use it very often admittedly, but visiting it occasionally does help keep my costs down. And it’s super helpful if I want to try an author, but I’m not 100% confident that I’ll like them.
  2. Goodreads – it keeps track of what I’ve read, what I’m reading now, and books that have caught my eye. I also like the quizzes, and the giveaways are good though I’ve never won. I also find it interesting to read other people’s thoughts on books which links to my next item…
  3. Other Blogs – I follow a decent number of blogs because I trust them, but sometimes I use them to find other  blogs through interesting comments.
  4. My TBR Excel spreadsheet – if a book makes it onto this list then I’m waaaaaay more likely to buy it. It’s also how I kept track of books I want to read that haven’t been published yet.
  5. WordPress – I find WordPress very helpful in terms of keeping track of how far behind/ahead I am with reviews. I like the schedule feature, as I really dislike writing the post on the same day it goes up.
  6. Bloglovin’ – it stops my email getting full of posts from blogs I follow.
  7. Memes – great way to find new interesting blogs. I take part in Top Ten Tuesday (obvs) and Sunday Post regularly. I also occasionally take part in Waiting on Wednesday and Showcase Sunday.
  8. Read-a-thons – a great way to interact with other blogs, and they also help you get your reading back on track. I like Bout of Books (which I’m taking part in this week) as it lets me set my own goals.
  9. Twitter – as a blogger I’ve noticed interaction is key, and Twitter is a good format for this imho. It also lets me promote things I find interesting, as well as my own stuff.
  10. Amazon/The Book Depository – not a huge fan of my local bookstore, and as far as I’m aware the only local independent bookstore has closed. I also can’t justify the cost of travelling to London to visit Foyles, so Amazon and The Book Depository it is for me on the whole. My shelves would be significantly emptier without them.

Those were my top ten things that make my life easier as a blogger. What things make your life easier as a blogger/reader? Let me know in the comments below, or link back to your Top Ten post so I can see what makes your list.

Bout of Books 8.0 – Goals & Updates

Bout of Books

I’m a little behind with this, as you can probably tell from the fact that I am writing this post the day before Bout of Books 8.0 starts. This will be the second time I have taken part in Bout of Books and I’m really looking forward to it. My goals are going to be relatively low this time because at the moment I seem to be reading one book in two weeks, which is not good but hopefully this will get me back on track.

If you want to find out more about Bout of Books 8.0 or want to take part yourself you can find more info here.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It was inspired in part by the In My Mailbox meme. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

This week has been a pretty meh week on the blog front, though I’m not sure why. I just didn’t feel motivated to read, or blog, or even be on Twitter – although on the Twitter front that was partially out of my control as I had some trouble with my mobile contract.

This Week on The Flutterby Room

Next Week on The Flutterby Room

  • 22nd August – Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky #1) by Veronica Rossi
  • 19th – 25th August – Bout of Books 8.0 posts

Any New Books?

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits, and Tea. Its aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week.

This week the penultimate book from the six books I ordered from Amazon arrived :)

  • Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas [Goodreads]
  • Mutton by India Knight [Goodreads]

A huge thank you to Catherine Ryan Howard who sent me a copy of Mutton on behalf of Penguin.

That’s it from me this week. I hope you’ve had a good week; let me know how your week went in the comments below.
