Day 2: 23rd August

Book(s) I’m Reading: Unmade by Sarah Rees Brennan, When We Collided by Emery Lord
Number of Pages Read Today: 261
Number of Pages Read Total: 371
Book(s) I’ve Completed: Unmade by Sarah Rees Brennan
Things I participated in: I decided not to take part in today’s challenge, but I had a good day reading-wise so I’m happy. My review for My Husband’s Wife by Jane Corry went live; an “intensely complex book […] [that] explores the grey spaces of human nature in an interesting way.”

Day 3: 24th August

Book(s) I’m Reading: When We Collided by Emery Lord
Number of Pages Read Today: 0
Number of Pages Read Total: 371
Book(s) I’ve Completed: Unmade by Sarah Rees Brennan
Things I participated in: Nothing. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram then you’ll know I had a bee come into the house yesterday and kind of panicked. It took me over two hours to get rid of it, and I just couldn’t settle after so no reading got done. To be honest it was a bit of a disaster, BUT as is so often said by the lovely mods – you cannot fail at Bout of Books, only flail. So although I didn’t actually read anything I’m not bothered. There’s always tomorrow.

Day 4: 25th August

Book(s) I’m Reading:  A Boy Made of Blocks by Keith Stuart and When We Collided by Emery Lord
Number of Pages Read Today: 196
Number of Pages Read Total: 607
Book(s) I’ve Completed: Unmade by Sarah Rees Brennan
Things I participated in: Today was a much better day than yesterday. I got a LOT of reading done. I also took part in the challenge which was to create a “tabloid” headline for a book I’m reading/have read for the read-a-thon (image below clicks through to my Instagram so you can read my headline if you wish and can’t easily, it’s a bit spoiler-y for The Lynburn Legacy though).

Day 5: 26th August

Book(s) I’m Reading: When We Collided by Emery Lord
Number of Pages Read Today: 81
Number of Pages Read Total: 688
Book(s) I’ve Completed: Unmade by Sarah Rees Brennan, When We Collided by Emery Lord
Things I participated in: Life got in the way again, and although I managed to get some reading in I didn’t participate in the daily challenge. Ah well. I did managed to take a photo I quite like though (photo links to my Instagram for easier reading).

Where I spent some of Day 5

Day 6: 27th August

Book(s) I’m Reading: A Boy Made of Blocks by Keith Stuart
Number of Pages Read Today: 262
Number of Pages Read Total: 950
Book(s) I’ve Completed: Unmade by Sarah Rees Brennan, When We Collided by Emery LordA Boy Made of Blocks by Keith Stuart
Things I participated in: I read today, but that was it… I had planned on taking part in the Twitter chat which was around 4pm my time but I didn’t end up doing so. It’s the first Twitter chat I’ve missed in a while which makes me kinda sad. Still, I had a good reading day.

Day 7: 28th August

Book(s) I’m Reading: Stolen by Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston
Number of Pages Read Today: 58
Number of Pages Read Total: 1008
Book(s) I’ve Completed: Unmade by Sarah Rees Brennan, When We Collided by Emery LordA Boy Made of Blocks by Keith Stuart
Things I participated in: Nothing, I just read.

That’s it. The end of Bout of Books 17 😭. No more Bout of Books until next year, which is very sad. But there will be one final post from me where I wrap things up.

Bout of Books 17 | Read-a-thon fun

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 17 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.

– From the Bout of Books team

It’s time for another Bout of Books, and I’ve decided to sign-up again. I want to use this opportunity to both kick-start myself back into reading & I want to use the opportunity to finish some books I’ve had lying around the house for a while. I really like the fact that this read-a-thon is no pressure. With that in mind, I don’t plan to do daily vlogs this time around. If you want to keep track of how I’m doing I’ll post an updates post on Monday where you can keep track, or you can follow me on Instagram or Twitter. Depending on how things go I may also post a vlog round-up of how Bout of Books 17 went for me once everything’s done.

As far as goals go for this read-a-thon they’re going to be real low-key, as I don’t want to pile the pressure on myself. Basically I want to read – and finish – the three books in the photo below, and anything on top of that will be gravy. Oh, and I definitely want to try for one of the Twitter chats as they’re super fun and I highly recommend them if you’re taking part and can make them – they are chaotic fun at its best!

The 3 books I want to read!

Please let me know in the comments below if you’re taking part, & good luck and I hope you have fun.

Bout of Books 16 Day 7 & Wrap-up!

Sunday was the final day of Bout of Books 16, and to be honest I took it pretty easy. I only read 36 pages of the illustrated HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE. Not even close to my 100 page target, but oh well.

My first goal of Bout of Books 16 was to read 700 pages – in the end I read 870 pages, which I’m very pleased with. My second goal was to take part in a Twitter chat – I took part in the Saturday one, well about half of it, but I’m still counting it! And my final goal was to take part in 2 challenges – in the end I took part in 5: introduce yourself #insixwords, Show off Your Shelves Photo Challenge, 5 favourites, If You Like this, Try This, and Share Your Favourite Moments of Bout of Books. So I achieved all my goals, and had a great Bout of Books I think.

If you’re thinking of signing-up for the next Bout of Books it’s on 22nd August 2016 to the 28th August 2016 and you can find out more here.

Bout of Books 16 – Days 5 & 6

I’ve just noticed I’m really bad at doing daily updates. Oh well, just one more post to go after this one and then it’s back to normal folks.

I’m going to start off talking about my Friday reading. It started off real slow – I don’t think I started really reading until like 6pm.  As it was Friday 13th the challenge was “Freaky Friday Photo Challenge” which I didn’t take part in. I did however manage to read 124 pages.

Saturday was much more fun on the reading front. The challenge was to “Share Your Favourite Bout of Books Moment” and mine was (for both this, and previous Bout of Books) taking part in a Twitter chat (yes, I made it to today’s one). They are such fun, and I highly recommend that you take part in at least one if you sign up for a Bout of Books. I definitely managed to smash my 100 pages reading goal, I actually managed 248 pages which I am so pleased with. 24 of those pages were from the illustrated HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE which is such a gorgeous book.

Tomorrow will be my final update of Bout of Books 16. I’m sort of sad that things are coming to an end, but I have had a great week. Please let me know how your week has gone in the comments, and I’ll see you tomorrow.

Bout of Books 16 – Day 4

Thursday was a good reading day, I read 137 pages. The most I’ve read this week so far. This brings my total up to 472 pages in 4 days which I’m really happy with. Today’s challenge was the ‘If you Like This, Try This Challenge’ and you can find my picks by clicking here or by watching the video below.

I hope you had a good Thursday.

Bout of Books 16 – Days 2 & 3

So you may have noticed that I didn’t post yesterday about my progress… There were various reasons for that, so I’ll simply say sorry and here’s two updates in one to make up for that.

On Tuesday I managed to read 100 pages, my goal exactly. And the challenge was to do a shelfie which I did and you can find it here or alternatively it does appear in the vlog.

On Wednesday I managed to read 123 pages which I was very pleased with. And the challenge was to share my 5 favourite books – I picked my 5 favourite vampire books. You can find a photo of my picks here or alternatively watch the vlog and see why I picked them too.

That means, this week so far I have read 335 pages which I am very pleased with. I have also completed my goal of taking part in 2 challenges.

If you’re taking part let me know in the comments how your Bout of Books 16 is going.

And finally for some shameless self promotion, I had a review for Dreams of Distant Shores by Patricia A. McKillip go up today. It’s a short story collection and if it is something you might be interested in you can check out my thoughts here. The collection isn’t out yet, but I do recommend it if you’re a fantasy fan.

Bout of Books 16 – Day One

Monday was the first day of Bout of Books 16, and I think overall I had a good day: I managed my 100 pages reading goal, and I completed the daily challenge. I did miss the Twitter chat, but it was at 2am my time.

The daily challenge was to introduce myself #insixwords: Avid story reader & fandom reveller!

Today I read 112 pages of Truthwitch by Susan Dennard.

And finally, if you’re thinking about taking part in Bout of Books 16 there is still time (just). Just head on over to the Bout of Books blog. I hope everyone taking part had a good first day.

See you tomorrow!

Bout of Books 16

Lookie, I decided to sign-up for another bout of books! This year is a little different as I’m going to not only update this blog but I’m also going to try and do mini-vlogs of my daily progress.

And for those of you who are new to my blog, here’s what Bout of Books is:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 9th and runs through Sunday, May 15th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 16 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

If you want to find out how I did in Bout of Books 15 you can find how I did here.

And for those of you who are curious about what my goals are, and didn’t watch the video, here they are:

  • Read 700 pages
  • Take part in 1 Twitter chat
  • Complete 2 challenges

2 of the 3 books I’m planning to read during the read-a-thon

They’re relatively simple, but I just want to use this as a chance to have fun. Please let me know in the comments if you are participating.

Good luck to everyone who is.

Bout of Books 15 – My Stats

With Bout of Books 15 in full swing, I thought it was probably past time to write down my goals for this read-a-thon. The whole point of Bout of Books is to have fun, and with that in mind I’ve set myself some relatively easy goals. I am also going to use this page to keep track of my progress during the read-a-thon so if you want to see how I’m doing be sure to check back!

My Goals:

  • Read 700 pages
  • Take part in 1 chat
  • Complete 2 challenges

I don’t think the goals I set myself are unrealistic – I don’t want to make reading a chore, after all – and I’m hoping that they’ll allow me to have some fun.

My Progress:

Day 1

Monday 4th January

  • Completed the #insixwords challenge: enthusiastic reader, dreamer, sleeper and nerd.
  • Read 73 pages
  • Missed the chat today as it was at 02:00 GMT and I wanted to sleep – hope everyone who managed to attend had fun.
  • Although I didn’t reach my goal of 100 pages, I still had fun 🙂

Day 2

Tuesday 5th January

  • Completed the ‘Would You Rather’ challenge
  • Read 188 pages
  • Total pages read = 261
  • It was a good day to read, and I just flew through CARRY ON.
  • The ‘Would You Rather’ challenge was fun, and some of the questions were quite hard and had me umm-ing and err-ing trying to pick which was the better outcome.

Day 3

Wednesday 6th January

  • Completed the Rainbow Book Covers challenge. I actually found it quite hard. The indigo and violet choices were especially small – just the two I picked – and I’m not 100% sure they’re right. Oh well. It’s the thought that counts, surely?
  • Today I read 82 pages.
  • This brings my total for the read-a-thon so far to – 343.

Day 4

Thursday 7th January

  • I decided not to participate in today’s challenge because whilst it sounded fun, I’m not totally sure which villains I’d like to see faceoff. Lord Voldemort comes to mind as one of the participants, but I’m not totally convinced he’s be a good choice – well, unless the person he was facing was a Muggle and then I’m convinced he’d send someone else to do the job instead.
  • Reading wise I seem to be back in the swing of things again. Not that 81 pages yesterday was bad, it just wasn’t my goal of 100.
  • I’ve finished my first book of the read-a-thon, CARRY ON, and it was a very enjoyable read.
  • Today I read 172 pages.
  • This brings my total for the read-a-thon to: 515

Day 5

Friday 9th January

  • I started MORTAL GODS, but didn’t actually have a lot of time to read.
  • I decided to do the scavenger hunt challenge, and had lots of fun doing it.
  • Instead of reading, I used a couple of hours to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I know I’m late to the party, but I really enjoyed watching the film. It was very similar in feel to the ‘original’ trilogy, and I look forward to seeing where this new trilogy goes.
  • Today I read 140 pages.
  • This brings my total to 655 pages.

Day 6

Saturday 10th January

  • I took part in today’s chat, which is another of my goals for this read-a-thon done. I was a little late to the party, but I had fun. The Twitter chat itself was brilliantly chaotic, and there were some interesting questions and answers.
  • I finished my second book of the read-a-thon today too. I really enjoyed MORTAL GODS. It was what I expected from the previous book, though one of the characters did kind of scare me.
  • I decided not to take part in today’s challenge because when I read I just tend to curl up wherever. I don’t have a particular spot where I sit and read – no comfy chair, no warm bed, no small space. I just tend to plonk myself down somewhere quiet and immerse myself in the book.
  • Having finished my second book, I decided to start my third. This one’s a little different to the previous ones, and I’ve been looking forward to reading it. THE SANDMAN OVERTURE by Neil Gaiman will be a good third book I think.
  • And to my great surprise I managed to finish my third book of the read-a-thon!
  • Today I read 450 pages.
  • This brings my total pages to 1, 105.

Day 7

Sunday 11th January

  • As there is no challenge today, and I have more than made my goal for this read-a-thon I have been in two minds about whether I should read today.
  • Having said that, reading x pages a day is a good habit to have. Especially if I want to avoid any reading slumps this year, I think.
  • Hope everyone is having a great final day.
  • In the end I decided to do a little bit of reading. It seemed silly not to.
  • Today I read 107 pages.
  • This brings my total for Bout of Books 15 to 1, 212 pages.

The 3 books I read during Bout of Books 15, and the one 1 started.

This brings to an end Bout of Books 2015. I had a really fun time taking part, and I’m looking forward to Bout of Books 16 which is taking place from May 9th to May 16th (you can check the Bout of Books blog for more details). Hopefully I’ll be able to take part in that one too.
