Review:
Last Sacrifice is the final book in Richelle Mead’s brilliant Vampire Academy series. Having read and enjoyed the other books in this series, I decided it was time to read the final installment. Like my reading of Spirit Bound, I think my reading of this book was influenced by my reading of Bloodlines and The Golden Lily. Last Sacrifice is a brilliant end to the Vampire Academy series, and Richelle Mead does a brilliant job in answering the majority of my questions.
Like the rest of the Vampire Academy series, Last Sacrifice is narrated by Rose. I really enjoyed watching the events in the book unfold through Rose’s eyes and how both friends and enemies alike surprised her. Rose really grows into herself in this book; she makes her choices and she lives with the consequences of them. I love the way Mead shows through the book how Rose influences the people around her. I really enjoyed reading her interactions with her friends, and watching her fight her corner.
Mead does an excellent job of drawing most of the plot threads in the Vampire Academy series to a close. To be honest, I still have a few questions but I’m hoping they will be answered (somehow) in the spin-off Bloodlines series (a couple of them actually already have been). Mead did an excellent job of weaving the plot and the narrative together, and the journey to the end of the final book was a brilliant one which I enjoyed. Mead put in plenty of plot twists throughout the book which kept me interested in the book.
Last Sacrifice serves as a brilliant ending to the Vampire Academy series. I am sad to see the last of Rose and Lissa. It has been really fun reading their story, and watching them grow as both individuals and as friends. Despite all the events which occur between Vampire Academy and Last Sacrifice they still have a brilliant strong bond. The friendship between them definitely carries the series. I’m glad I decided to backtrack and read this series. It has been a great ride.
