The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It was inspired in part by the In My Mailbox meme. It’s a chance to share News. This week I came to the rather sad conclusion that I won’t be able to publish two reviews a week on the blog and will instead have to return to one review a week. My “reading slump” has totally destroyed the two month cushion I had built myself, and I can no longer keep up with two reviews every week. This makes me sad, but hopefully things will improve.

Apart from that, this week has been a good one.

Any New Books?

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits, and Tea. Its aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week.

I popped into Waterstones yesterday and I had to buy this book. It sounded really interesting.

  • The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith [Goodreads]

I know this book is really by J. K. Rowling (who doesn’t by now?), but that’s not actually the reason I picked it up. I picked it up because I heard two great reviews about the book from people I trust (a blogger and a vlogger, who will be thanked in the review) and I fancied something a little different to shake things up.

  2. I’d like to read the Rowling/Galbraith book, too, and in my case it is because it’s J. K. Rowling. I know it got good reviews before her name was on it, and I’m curious to see what she wrote without (as she thought) the weight of her name behind her. There must be a certain freedom in that, don’t you think?

    I understand what you mean about not being able to keep up with 2 reviews a week. I’m in awe of readers/reviewers who can pump out three or four or even five reviews a week, every week without fail. Some weeks I do really well, which for me is around three. Other weeks I’m lucky to manage two, and some weeks it’s only one. My life is just so busy with other things, and while I’m a pretty fast reader, I’m not a fast writer/reviewer — too much perfectionism. (I’m trying to let go of that.)

    I think you’re right to back off a little until you get your reading mojo back. It will happen! And if it doesn’t, then enjoy your one book and one review. Because the whole point of reading AND blogging is to enjoy them.
